University of Maryland football fans used social media Thursday to express both approval and frustration over the team’s new uniforms.
“Some of the combinations don’t work, but overall they are awesome. The helmets are perfect,” said fan Greg Baldwin.
The school unveiled the new uniforms, designed and created by the Baltimore based company Under Armour, Thursday night at the Clarence Smith Performing Arts on the College Park campus.

Players and head coach Randy Edsall modeled and walked down a runway in the same style of an L.A. fashion show, as fans caught their first glimpse of the new uniforms.
“There really should be no complaints at all,” said Visante Harper of Springfield, Va. “These uniforms are fantastic!”
Overall, the players wore 16 different helmet-jersey-pant combinations colored in red, black, white, and yellow.
Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank said, “This program kicks off a new chapter … what went into these uniforms is the foundation that has been laid by the alumni, the people who have given out of their pocket books, the players that have given it their all on the field, the academic institution that supports a phenomenal athletic program.”
Edsall said, “Kevin Plank and Under Armour got it done, done, done with these uniforms.”
But the new digs did not sit well with all fans, and many wondered why school tradition was thrown out.
Eldersburg, Md. native Jeff Gardner said, “To be blunt, they suck! Where is the Terps [script]?”
Gardner is referring to the logo that dawned the Maryland football helmets over the last 10 years. The script was also used back in the 1980’s under then head coach Bobby Ross.
The football uniforms are apart of the University of Maryland overhauling their overall image and this past summer the school unveiled a new logo for athletics.
Athletic Director Kevin Anderson said, “It’s not whether we like the new look, but if the people we are recruiting like the new look.” ###
